In deze tweedelige avond ontdek je de ideeënwereld van de kunstenaar, die aan nieuw werk ten grondslag ligt. Je krijgt een inkijk in het creatieproces en neemt deel aan een collectieve feedback sessie; je maakt dus zelf ook onderdeel uit van het maakproces!

Get an insight into a creative process. An artist invites someone to share an idea or practice that inspires their research. You also get to see some snippets and experiments of the work-in-progress and take part into a collective feedback session.
Alaa Minawi will share the start of his artistic research that is about reimaging power structures. In an incredibly unfair cosmos of past and current systems, how can another world be imagined? And if it was realized will it be a utopia or dystopia or a combination of both? Alaa's starting points are Arab Futurism, Afro Futurism and Drag from the future. What if historically marginalized communities are the ones in power? Alaa will share some of the questions reached during his research with you.
Alaa invites a surprise guest who will engage to the idea of Arab Futurism, as this is one of the central theme’s around which Alaa’s artistic research is unfolding.

ABOUT ALAA MINAWI
Alaa Minawi, a Dutch-Lebanese-Palestinian artist based in Amsterdam, started his career as a light designer and scenographer then shifted towards making his own installations and performances. Since 2016, Alaa has been exploring the possibilities of merging installation and performing arts.
Degrees: BA Communication Arts from the Lebanese American University - MA Fine Arts from Hogeschool voor De Kunsten Utrecht. Alaa is a lecturer at AHK, HKU, and Sandberg Institute. He is the founder & Program Director of the “Beirut Summer School for Theater & Performance”
